Magazine Story Idea

I have decided that for my magazine story I will write a review on a beauty product. I am considering writing a review on the the Kylie Lip Kit by Kylie Jenner's Kylie Cosmetics. I will provide factual information on the product along with my personal opinions. I will also interview a few of my friends who have used the product to add ethos to my review. I will take photographs of the product and its packaging as well as people wearing the matte liquid lipstick.

Magazine Title

We have decided on the title for our magazine. I was inspired when I found the word "elysian" which is defined as beautiful or creative; divinely inspired; peaceful and perfect. I immediately thought that "Elysian" would be the perfect title for our magazine and Lindsey happily agreed.

Decision

I decided to complete the magazine task for my AICE Media Studies project. I came to this decision because I have a love for journalism. I think this will be an excellent fit for me as I will enjoy designing and writing stories for my own magazine. I have chosen to collaborate with Lindsey Sanchez. After discussing the task, we have decided that we will create a magazine similar to Seventeen or Teen Vogue. Our magazine will feature stories about fashion, makeup, healthy living, love, celebrities, and current events. The target population will be female teenagers and young adults. We plan to advertise our product through various social media sources such as Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat, and Facebook. People will subscribe to our magazine because it will provide entertainment as well as useful information. The magazine will be sold in stores and online. I foresee Lindsey and I working closely together to create this magazine and deciding on all details, such as format, font, etc. together. However, we will of course write our own stories. We have already started planning our magazine and are very excited to see it come to life!

Film Task

The film task would be a wise choice for me because I am very creative. I enjoy coming up with plots and have written scripts for short films in the past. I took a video productions class and made a few short films. I learned how to use a camera. I also learned how to use iMovie. However, based on what I have learned about film making in class, I realize that there are many problems that I would come across. I also am not very good with computers. I think that using a more professional film editing software might be too difficult for me. I also think that filming might be difficult because I do not have access to a studio. Overall, I think the film task might not be the best option for me.

Magazine Task

Based on what I know about the work of journalists and magazines, I think the magazine task would be an exceptional fit for me. I am personally very interested in journalism and plan on majoring in it in college. I genuinely enjoy finding and writing stories and am skilled at solving problems or stories with missing information. I am experienced in researching various topics. I also have excellent interpersonal skills which would enable me to be a good interviewer. However, my inexperience in the field may limit my capabilities of creating a magazine. I am not particularly skilled with graphic design software. However, as this is a skill that I could learn, I think that the magazine task would overall be a perfect fit for me.
